DJ NaturalHiiigh on Life, Music, and Staying True
When I first met DJ NaturalHiiigh, her energy lit up the room like no other. That same genuine vibe has carried through every encounter since. Sitting down with her for Vibes on Live was not just an interview—it was a glimpse into the heart of a creative who is navigating her path with intention and grace. We talked about everything from sobriety to social media and, of course, music. DJ NaturalHiiigh’s story is one of resilience, authenticity, and a deep commitment to staying true to herself.
For DJ NaturalHiiigh, prioritizing her all around wellness is at the forefront of her healing journey, and is more than just self-preservation—it’s about being the best version of herself so that she can show up in life with a better mindset & determination. “If I'm not well, then nothing can get done over on this side,” she told me, making it clear that self-care is not just a buzzword but a necessity. Her aspirations extend beyond personal growth; she’s passionate about encouraging other Black female creatives to embrace mental wellness and authentic expression.
When we spoke about her hopes for the community, DJ NaturalHiiigh expressed a desire to shift away from creating art merely for public consumption. “I want us to get back to putting together events that are just a good time versus a viral time,” she said, reflecting on the pressures that come with the online world. It's time, she believes, for Black female DJs and artists to receive the recognition they deserve. Our scene is full of incredibly talented women, and it’s about time we highlight them.
Navigating the complexities of social media has been a delicate balance for her. Though she’s well aware of its role in connecting with supporters and building her brand, she’s also mindful of its potential pitfalls. “The internet is a tricky place,” she admitted. I get that, and I see her point—it’s not easy putting yourself out there while still keeping some parts of your life sacred. It reminded me of what Ari Lennox has said about setting boundaries online, something DJ NaturalHiiigh admires. “Everybody doesn't need to know everything,” she emphasized, reinforcing the importance of sharing only what feels authentic.
Talking about Vibes on Live took us back to a long-awaited moment—her Virtual Mix session at We Are All Stars Gallery. For DJ NaturalHiiigh, that day was about finally “getting it done.”
It was one of those things she’d talked about for a while but hadn’t yet acted on, so when the opportunity came, she seized it. The space felt like a sanctuary, the perfect backdrop for a set that blended different genres and sounds in true DJ NaturalHiiigh fashion. Her performances aren’t just about playing tracks; they’re about curating an experience that feels alive, rooted in music that moves her. “These are the songs that make me feel something,” she said, giving insight into her process.
She doesn’t approach her gigs with a one-size-fits-all mentality. Whether spinning at an intimate gathering or a packed club, her goal is to keep it dynamic and unexpected, sparking moments that make you stop and listen. “Whenever people come to hear me play, I want them to know it's gonna be a fun night,” she shared. It’s about creating those moments where the music catches you off guard—in the best way—and adds a little extra magic to the night.
DJ NaturalHiiigh’s journey is not just about gaining notoriety, though I know it’s on the horizon—I've seen it coming, and so has she. It’s about doing it on her terms, guided by her vibe and staying grounded in what feels true. There’s a light in her that can’t be dimmed, and I have no doubt it’s going to shine even brighter as she continues to grow and evolve.
As someone who’s been in the room with DJ NaturalHiiigh, I can tell you that her energy is something special. She’s not just playing music; she’s setting a vibe, creating a space where you can truly feel the moment. And I’m here for it. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—the best is yet to come.
